Old Lyme’s Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library plans to lend laptops starting November 2, Elizabeth Regan reported in LymeLine October 14. Director Katie Huffman told the outlet ten computers arrived in September.
Eight are intended for renewable year-long home loans. Two are planned for two-hour library sessions without eligibility restrictions; that reservation process was still being developed, LymeLine reported.
The statewide Laptop ConneCT program is administered by DEEP with the Connecticut State Library, using American Rescue Plan Act Capital Projects Fund money. Its stated purpose is to pair device access with library support for online education, employment and essential services.
DEEP says home borrowers generally must be at least 18, hold a card in the distributing municipality, participate in qualifying assistance and lack a comparable home computer. Examples include SNAP, CEAP/LIHEAP, Medicare and HUSKY Health. An adult may borrow on behalf of a household minor; the local library should confirm the applicable arrangements.
LymeLine reports that long-term borrowers must arrange an appointment with information and technology librarian Jess Steding for eligibility review, setup and basic training. The planned loan does not include a hotspot or help paying for home internet.
The library lists its public number as 860-434-1684 and its address as 2 Library Lane. Call to confirm the start date and appointment process before visiting. November 2 is a reported future opening, not evidence that laptops are available today; the local rollout details have not been independently confirmed in a library announcement.
