A proposed funeral home at 100 Shore Road faces a new round of zoning review after an error in Old Lyme’s regulations stopped its scheduled October 13 hearing, LymeLine reported October 14.
Elizabeth Regan’s report attributes the problem to a 2024 amendment allowing embalming under specified conditions that was left out of this summer’s rewritten regulations. Land Use Coordinator Eric Knapp told LymeLine the application could not proceed under the rules then in effect.
The town’s published October 13 agenda confirms that Antanna Realty LLC’s special-permit application to convert the existing building into a funeral home was scheduled for a hearing at Town Hall. An agenda establishes the planned business, not what the commission ultimately decided.
According to LymeLine, the commission began the process of readopting the amendment and asked for the application to be withdrawn and refiled, waiving related fees. Officials hoped to open hearings November 9, but referrals and public-notice requirements could affect that timing.
The proposed use has not been established as approved or denied. Readers should check the town’s updated agendas before attending a future hearing. The account of the October 13 proceedings is attributed to LymeLine; official meeting minutes were not available in this review.
