WINDHAM — Access Community Action Agency plans to expand its mobile food pantry from eight distribution sites to 10 to 12 sites a month with a $30,000 investment from United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut and its Windham Region Advisory Board.

The November 5 announcement says the pantry currently reaches 1,400 people in more than 600 households in Windham and Tolland counties. The service had stopped because of insufficient funding before more than $20,000 raised through United Way’s 860Gives campaign helped restart it earlier this year.

For residents seeking food, Access says its mobile distributions do not require an appointment, identification or proof of income. Visitors complete a short sign-in form, select their own items and should bring a bag.

Available food varies by stop and inventory. Access lists produce, canned foods, grains, fresh or frozen proteins and dairy among the categories it works to offer. SNAP information and other resources are available at distributions.

The grant announcement does not name the additional stops or give a start date for the expansion. Residents can check Access’s mobile pantry schedule at https://accessagency.org/food-pantries-site-based-and-mobile#MFPSchedule before traveling.
