WATERFORD — Retired police dog Neo has died after cancer, the Waterford Police Department announced Friday, November 6.

Neo worked with handler Patrick Epps from 2017 through 2023. The department credited the team with locating missing and endangered people, narcotics seizures and criminal apprehensions. It also said Neo helped recover more than $20,000 from a bank-robbery suspect.

The department thanked Neo and Epps, now a sergeant, for their service and offered condolences to Epps’ family.

Neo’s illness had prompted a treatment appeal a month earlier. WFSB reported October 8 that the retired German shepherd–Belgian Malinois mix had been diagnosed with cancer and that Harlows Heroes was seeking support for his treatment. Friday’s police announcement reports his death; the earlier treatment appeal is historical.
