WATERFORD — A New York man faces a reckless-driving charge after a trooper allegedly measured his Toyota Sienna traveling 116 mph on Interstate 395, state police announced Thursday.

The stop happened around 3:04 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, on the northbound side north of Exit 2. Police say the posted limit was 65 mph and the trooper used laser equipment while monitoring traffic from the median.

The Sienna pulled onto the right shoulder after the trooper activated emergency lights and a siren, according to the release. Police identified the driver as Mohammad S. Mamun, 42, of Jackson Heights, New York.

Mamun was arrested without incident and taken to Troop E for processing, police said. One of the four passengers was allowed to drive the minivan away.

Police charged Mamun with reckless driving under Connecticut General Statutes Section 14-222. They reported his release on a $500 bond with a 7% cash provision and a November 4 arraignment at New London Superior Court.

The charge is an allegation, not a conviction. The account is based on the State Police release issued October 22; the arrest occurred the previous day.
