STORRS — UConn’s on-campus basketball arena will become M&T Bank Center at Gampel Pavilion under an expanded partnership announced Wednesday, October 21. The university says its Board of Trustees approved the agreement at Wednesday’s meeting.

The multiyear naming rights cover the facility used by the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The new name retains Gampel Pavilion, linking the sponsorship to the arena’s established identity rather than announcing a new building or a move away from Storrs.

UConn says the broader agreement supports academic and athletic priorities, student achievement and educational opportunities. M&T’s announcement describes the overall partnership as multimillion-dollar, but the reviewed announcements do not disclose a precise dollar amount or the number of years in the naming-rights term.

The partnership also includes university-wide banking sponsorship, student-athlete name, image and likeness opportunities, university events and co-branded banking products. Those commercial arrangements are part of the sponsorship; the announcements do not establish that students must become bank customers.

The arena opened in 1990 and also hosts commencement ceremonies, concerts and community events. The naming announcement comes while renovations are underway. It does not itself establish that construction is complete or change a game’s published location or time.

Fans checking tickets and schedules should expect the expanded arena name to refer to the same Storrs venue. UConn’s official athletics announcement is linked below; future construction or event changes should be checked against the university’s current notices.
