MANSFIELD — UConn’s men’s hockey team recovered from repeated deficits Saturday to tie Merrimack 5–5 in North Andover, Massachusetts, then win the shootout for the extra Hockey East standings point, UConn Athletics reported.

The Huskies trailed 3–1 and 4–2 during the second period. Joey Muldowney and Colin Frank scored before Ethan Whitcomb converted a five-on-three opportunity to bring UConn level at 4–4.

After Merrimack moved back in front in the third, Anthony Allain-Samake scored from the point off a Mike Murtagh setup to make it 5–5. Neither team scored in overtime.

Jeremy Loranger and Whitcomb scored in the shootout, while Veeti Louhivaara stopped three of four attempts. The official game result remains a tie; the shootout determines the additional conference point.

UConn’s next listed game is November 5 at Providence.
