STORRS — UConn’s men’s basketball team placed fourth in the Associated Press preseason poll released October 19, according to WFSB’s report. Florida, Duke and Illinois held the first three positions.

The national ranking follows a separate Big East coaches’ vote that made UConn the conference’s preseason favorite. The Huskies received 98 points and eight first-place votes, UConn Athletics announced October 1. Coaches could not vote for their own teams or players.

The conference also selected Silas Demary Jr. as preseason player of the year. Braylon Mullins was a unanimous first-team selection and Na’jai Hines was named to the second team, according to UConn Athletics.

Both polls describe expectations entering the season. They are not regular-season standings, tournament seeds or guarantees of how the team will finish.
