TOLLAND — A 40-year-old New Hampshire man faces arson and related charges in connection with a vehicle fire at a Tolland apartment complex in May 2024, according to an October 26 report by Patch.
Patch reported that state police served a warrant on Jin Zhang on October 21. The outlet listed charges of third-degree arson, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree threatening and first-degree reckless endangerment. Those charges are allegations, not convictions.
The underlying incident occurred at Norwegian Woods at about 10:28 p.m. on May 16, 2024. Citing the warrant, Patch reported that state police and Tolland firefighters responded after a 911 caller reported a car fire. A Volkswagen Jetta was burning when crews arrived.
The report described witness allegations that a gas can was near the vehicle and that a person threatened to burn the complex. It said investigators traced a New Hampshire license plate to Zhang. These are allegations described in Patch’s account of the warrant; Eastern CT News has not independently examined the warrant or interviewed witnesses.
According to Patch’s account of judicial records, Zhang was arraigned in Rockville Superior Court on October 21. The report said his initial $250,000 bond was reduced to $50,000, which he posted, and listed December 8 as his next scheduled court date. That is the schedule reported by the outlet, not a separately verified current docket.
This article was prepared from Patch’s complete published report. It does not describe a new fire in Tolland, and no verdict or final case outcome is reported.
