THOMPSON — A driver was taken for medical evaluation after a pickup struck a utility pole on Reardon Road Monday evening, leaving downed electrical equipment around the vehicle, according to a Thompson Fire Engine Company account shared by Northeast NewsReel.
The account says Thompson firefighters were sent at 8:15 p.m. October 26 on an automatic mutual-aid assignment in Community Fire Company's district. They found a pickup at a broken pole, with leaking transformers in the roadway and power lines on or around the vehicle.
The driver reported no serious injuries, the account says. Because the lines could have been energized, firefighters kept a safe distance, spoke with the driver and instructed the occupant to stay inside while crews waited for Eversource to secure the equipment.
After the scene was confirmed safe for removal, responders helped the driver out and Putnam EMS — Thompson Crew transported the occupant for medical evaluation, according to the shared company account. No later medical condition was provided.
Firefighters also worked to contain transformer oil. The account says the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was notified of the release and Eversource was advised that environmental cleanup was needed. It does not establish that cleanup was completed or that a road restriction has ended.
Quiet Corner Alerts' earlier preliminary report described an occupant unable to get out because of live wires and later reported no injuries. The fuller fire-company account adds the subsequent safe removal and medical transport. These are attributed accounts of the same incident, not separate corroborating incidents.
The company used the response to remind people to stay away from downed wires, call 911 and remain in a vehicle surrounded by lines until utility crews confirm it is safe to leave, unless an immediate danger such as fire requires escape.
Eastern CT News has not independently obtained a police crash report or established the collision's cause, any charge or the roadway's current status.
