THOMPSON — Animal control has identified the owner of an emu captured near Thompson Hill Road and Pasay Road Wednesday morning and was waiting for the bird to be picked up, according to Patch's report.

Animal Control Officer Nicole Raymond told Patch that officials knew who the emu belonged to as of 2:30 p.m. That provides a later status than the town's initial request for help reaching its owners.

The town's account, shared by WINY Radio, said officers received the loose-bird call about 10:30 a.m. Raymond and fellow animal control officer Donohue captured it after it ran along Thompson Hill Road and into a backyard.

The town said the bird was safe and being cared for. Patch's account did not confirm that the owner had collected it.
