STAFFORD — Residents can weigh two different futures for the former Witt School at 20 Hyde Park Road through community discussions announced on the town’s website.

The YMCA of Greater Hartford and The Michaels Organization responded to the town’s reuse solicitation. A YMCA discussion is scheduled October 14 at 6 p.m. at the Stafford Community Center, 3 Buckley Highway. It will explore local service needs and a possible YMCA presence. The town describes the discussion as exploratory.

Michaels will present October 28 at 6 p.m. at the same location. Its proposal includes 48 affordable apartments for residents 55 and older and a publicly accessible Community Commons for wellness, nonprofit and community activities. Housing would target households earning approximately 50% and 60% of area median income.

The town’s October 14 listing offers free childcare at both meetings, starting at 5:45 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m., with required sign-in and sign-out, first-come availability and a pizza dinner. A streaming link is provided in the official announcement.

These are proposed uses, not an approved construction project. Full proposal PDFs were linked but could not be retrieved during this review.
