SOMERS — Town officials are pursuing another redevelopment partner for the former Somersville Mill after Winn Companies withdrew a proposed housing project, according to a September 2026 town progress report.
Winn’s concept called for an 80- to 100-unit, four-story mixed-income development. It never moved beyond conceptual planning, the report says. Preliminary discussions with another prospective partner began in June; the update does not name that party or announce an approved replacement.
Environmental cleanup remains a separate hurdle. A $995,000 state grant conditionally approved in December 2023 depended on the developer securing housing tax credits and other Connecticut Housing Finance Authority funding before cleanup money would be released, according to the town.
The September report says officials sought additional cleanup funding that month. It provides no firm redevelopment schedule or new funding award. This describes that dated update, not a newly approved project.
