PUTNAM — A man suffered serious, life-threatening injuries when a vehicle struck him in the Riverfront Commons parking lot early Sunday, October 18, according to a new Putnam Police Department release.
Emergency dispatch received a 911 call about the collision at approximately 2:01 a.m. Police placed the scene near 235 Kennedy Drive. Officers found the injured man there, and he was taken to Day Kimball Hospital before being transferred to UMass Hospital.
The vehicle left the scene, but investigators have since identified and recovered it, police said. The release did not identify the driver, describe the vehicle or announce an arrest. It also did not explain how the collision occurred.
Police said the investigation remains open and active and that they were releasing no further information at that time. WFSB’s October 18 report, published at 8:40 a.m., describes the same sequence and attributes it to the department; it is not a separate eyewitness account.
This is a different incident from the October 9 School Street hit-and-run previously covered by Eastern CT News. The two reports concern different dates, locations and injured pedestrians; no connection has been established.
The department’s published nonemergency number is 860-928-6565, and its crime-tip hotline is 860-963-0000. Call 911 for an emergency.
