PUTNAM — Residents who lack a comparable computer at home can apply for a long-term laptop loan through Putnam Public Library, which is offering the devices to qualifying local households.
The library’s current notice says applicants must live in Putnam, hold a valid library card and participate in HUSKY, SNAP, Medicare, LIHEAP or CEAP. Eligible residents are directed to apply in person.
Deputy Mayor Scott Pempek discussed the program on WINY’s talk show, the station reported Wednesday. He said state-provided laptops could be made available to eligible residents at no cost for up to five years, helping people access services and opportunities that increasingly require an internet connection.
The library describes the arrangement as a loan. Applicants should ask staff about availability and the borrowing terms before making plans around receiving a device.
The library is in the Putnam Municipal Complex at 200 School Street. Its public telephone number is 860-963-6826; Library Director Priscilla Colwell is also listed as a contact.
The library’s website lists a Veterans Day closure for Wednesday, November 11.
