A Preston horse-rescue program is bringing together horses recovering from neglect and veterans and first responders seeking connection after service.
Humane Warriors identifies itself as an initiative of Paws of War and lists locations in Preston and Peru, Massachusetts. Its official description puts veterans and first responders at the center of animal-rescue work, from bringing animals to safety to helping with their care.
The Day reported October 25, in an article updated October 26, that Marcy Baker and Jessy Walden run the Preston ranch and that the program had rescued six horses. Its account describes rehabilitation of Wren and Baxter after their September rescue in Pennsylvania, including veterinary examinations, quarantine, feeding plans and hoof care.
The organization’s animal profiles describe other rescued horses, including Tobias and Darla, and say they receive veterinary and dental care, feed, supplements and medication at its Connecticut farm. These are the charity’s descriptions, rather than independent veterinary assessments.
Paws of War describes Humane Warriors as combining horse rescue with a veteran and first-responder equine program. That stated purpose is not a guarantee of a clinical outcome.
People interested in helping can find volunteer and contact information on the organization’s official website. The reviewed materials do not establish a public drop-in schedule or guarantee that every program operates at the Preston property; separate At Ease retreat information concerns its Massachusetts location.
