Norwich residents can obtain free smoke detectors Saturday, October 17, at the East Great Plain Volunteer Fire Department station, according to an October 13 Norwich Bulletin report citing a community announcement.
The distribution is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 488 New London Turnpike. Norwich Ace Hardware donated 100 detectors. They will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, so the scheduled closing time does not guarantee alarms will remain available.
The department’s outreach follows Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10. The newspaper reports that department members linked the giveaway to household hazards they encounter and the importance of working smoke alarms.
This account is based on the newspaper’s report of the announcement. A separate direct department release was not located in this pass, and the report does not specify a per-household limit or installation assistance. Check with the department for those details before making arrangements.
