NORTH STONINGTON — A two-alarm commercial structure fire at 75 Frontage Road drew a large mutual-aid response Wednesday night, October 21, with heavy fire showing and an elevated ladder stream operating.
Dispatch information supplied to Eastern CT News says the North Stonington Fire Department was sent to a fire alarm at 8:23 p.m. QV Dispatch upgraded the call to a structure fire one minute later and transmitted the first alarm.
NLC Fire Wire reported that a North Stonington command officer arrived to find a working fire. Pawcatuck crews laid a supply line to North Stonington Ladder 151, whose ladder pipe was later placed in operation.
A second alarm brought additional fire companies and tankers from communities in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Reported responding resources included North Stonington, Pawcatuck, Mystic, Old Mystic, Ledyard, Preston, Mashantucket, Wequetequock, Ashaway, Hope Valley and Richmond-Carolina.
At about 9 p.m., command requested four additional ambulances and a second firefighter-assistance-and-search team. North Stonington Ambulance was retoned, and Ashaway and Hope Valley ambulances were added, according to the dispatch update.
In a subsequent update, NLC Fire Wire listed Sub Base FAST along with additional tanker resources from Ledyard, Voluntown (Tanker 353), Griswold (ET-355) and Dunns Corners. These are reported dispatch assignments; they do not establish that every unit had arrived.
The reason for the additional medical response was not immediately reported. No confirmed injuries were available as of this first report, and the extent of damage was not yet known.
Fire Wire updates also said companies were evacuating the building and command requested a Level 2 tanker task force. Drivers should avoid the immediate Frontage Road scene and leave room for responding apparatus.
The dispatch and operational details are attributed to NLC Fire Wire and the supplied incident updates. Eastern CT News has not obtained an official department statement confirming injuries, the cause, damage or whether the fire is under control. This developing article will be updated as supported information becomes available.
