NEW LONDON — U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney and George Austin are scheduled to debate October 26 at Connecticut College, giving 2nd Congressional District voters an opportunity to hear the candidates before Election Day.
The college and CT Examiner are hosting the hourlong event from 7 to 8 p.m. in Ernst Common Room in the Blaustein Humanities Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., according to the organizer’s registration page.
Admission is free, but every attendee must register individually in advance. Registration provides admission to the event rather than a guaranteed seat in Ernst Common Room. Additional registered guests will be directed to Hood Dining Room for live overflow viewing when the main room fills.
Reserved campaign seats will be held until 6:50 p.m. Unclaimed reserved seats may then be made available to registered attendees waiting for the main room, the college says.
The debate will use a League of Women Voters format. CT Examiner Editor-in-Chief Gregory Stroud will moderate; the outlet identifies Rebecca McCue and student Camels Vote Ambassador Eliza Macaluso as panel questioners.
CT-N will broadcast and livestream the debate. CT Examiner also lists live radio coverage through WICH in Norwich and WILI AM in Willimantic.
Attendees are asked to avoid applause, verbal reactions and other participation during the debate. Campaign signs, materials and apparel are prohibited inside the debate room. The college says parking, check-in and livestream details will be emailed to registered attendees before the event.
Readers should use the linked organizer registration page for availability and any subsequent changes.
