NEW LONDON — Gasoline splashed onto an operating halogen work light started Saturday’s fire at a Walker Street storage building, according to a fire marshal’s finding reported by WFSB.

Firefighters responded about 1:16 p.m. November 7 to the building, which contains 11 storage units. Heavy fire involved two units and was spreading into neighboring units and the attic, WFSB reported, citing fire officials.

The fire was brought under control. WFSB reported assistance from Naval Submarine Base and Groton City firefighters; The Day also reported mutual aid from East Lyme, citing the fire department. Officials reported no injuries.

The fire marshal determined that a mechanic had removed a vehicle’s fuel tank and accidentally splashed gasoline onto the light, WFSB reported.
