MYSTIC — An 83-year-old Noank man found dead along the shoreline after a boat was discovered adrift Monday has been identified as Christopher Andrews, according to NBC Connecticut and WFSB reports citing the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

WFSB places the vessel’s discovery in the area of Ram Island at about 10 a.m. October 26, with Andrews found along the nearby shoreline. The reports do not establish which side of the harbor’s shoreline was involved or confirm a connection between Andrews and the vessel.

Stonington firefighters, Stonington police and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted with the recovery, NBC Connecticut reported. EnCon police are examining the circumstances, including whether a boating accident occurred.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the cause and manner of death, according to the reports. Neither a cause nor manner of death has been established in the material reviewed. This article does not characterize the death as a drowning.

Officials reported no indication of a threat to the public. The new identification and reported Ram Island location add information to the earlier account; they do not establish a completed investigation or a later medical finding.

This update was prepared from the full NBC Connecticut and WFSB reports reviewed October 27. Both attribute incident information to DEEP, so they are not treated as separate agency confirmations. Eastern CT News has not separately obtained an EnCon incident report or medical-examiner finding. The original article date and approved Stonington Police vehicle file photograph are preserved.
