MONTVILLE — Freedom Village residents announced a tenants union Thursday, November 5, seeking a stronger voice over water deliveries and maintenance at the public housing complex for seniors and people with disabilities, The Day reported.

Residents rallied before notifying town officials. The union wants to rebuild communication with the Montville Housing Authority and strengthen negotiations with DeMarco Management, according to The Day’s account.

Tenants described unreliable bottled-water deliveries and unresolved repairs. The newspaper also reported officials’ position that the drinking water is now safe, despite earlier lead problems. The housing authority chairwoman and DeMarco could not be reached for comment by The Day.

The next Housing Authority meeting on the town’s calendar is Tuesday, November 17, at 4:30 p.m. in Independence Village’s community room, 41 Milefski Drive, Uncasville. That listing establishes a meeting opportunity, not a confirmed agenda item or repair deadline; residents should check the town calendar for changes.
