LEDYARD — A dirt-bike owner followed two bikes reported stolen from Groton into Ledyard and struck one of them near Gallup Hill Road on Thursday night, according to a breaking report from CTPOLICELIVE.
The outlet’s scanner-based account places the incident at about 8:08 p.m. along Route 117, also known as Colonel Ledyard Highway, near Gallup Hill Road. CTPOLICELIVE reported that Town of Groton Police initially received a report of two blue dirt bikes stolen from the Poquonnock Bridge area.
The bikes were then seen traveling north on Route 117 toward Ledyard, the report says. A Groton officer followed without initiating a pursuit while Ledyard Police were notified.
CTPOLICELIVE reported that the owner was also following the bikes despite repeated requests from officers to stop. The account says the owner drove past the Groton officer and struck one of the dirt bikes near Gallup Hill Road.
Police held one individual at gunpoint before taking that person into custody, according to the report. A second dirt bike was reportedly seen continuing toward a nearby school, and Groton and Ledyard officers were searching the area for a second person.
No names, injuries or charges were reported in the source post. Eastern CT News has not obtained a police news release confirming the sequence of events, the reason for the collision or the current status of the search.
Drivers in the Route 117 and Gallup Hill Road area should avoid interfering with police activity. Anyone with firsthand information should contact the appropriate police agency rather than approaching a suspect.
