KILLINGLY — A retail change is planned at Killingly Commons: Staples is scheduled to close December 11, with Western clothing and workwear chain Boot Barn expected to take over the space next year, according to local reporting.

The Connecticut Scoop reported October 22 that Boot Barn had finalized a lease for more than 14,000 square feet at 581 Hartford Pike / 2079 Killingly Commons. The outlet identified Saugatuck Commercial Real Estate as the company that represented Boot Barn. No exact opening date was established in the sources reviewed.

An October 22 Journal Inquirer report carried by The Day says signs in the Staples windows give December 11 as its closing date. The report says Staples did not respond to the newspaper’s inquiries; this article has not independently obtained a company explanation for the closure.

Staples’ own store directory confirms the Killingly Commons address and currently lists printing, shipping and other services there. Customers with orders or service needs should confirm arrangements directly with the retailer as the closing date approaches.

The Day’s report identifies Willimantic as the nearest remaining Staples alternative and says New London and Sturbridge, Massachusetts, also have nearby locations. It describes Killingly as the fourth Connecticut Staples closure since the beginning of 2025.

Boot Barn sells Western and work clothing, boots, hats and accessories. The Connecticut Scoop says its existing Connecticut locations include Manchester, Plainville, Milford and Waterford. Its reported Killingly plan is a future store, not an announcement that the replacement has opened.
