KILLINGLY — A descendant of Connecticut’s Charter Oak has a new home at Hygeia Reservoir following a planting ceremony Wednesday, November 4, according to a message carried by WINY Radio.
The tree was grown from an acorn collected from a documented descendant of the original Charter Oak, the message said. Thomas E. Worthley of UConn Extension Forestry propagated it.
The Plainfield America 250 Committee organized the ceremony with the Deborah Avery Putnam Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, according to the account. Killingly Town Manager Brian Palaia and Parks and Recreation Director Bucky Lohbusch were among those attending.
Hygeia Reservoir is a seasonal town park on Valley Road, according to Killingly’s Parks and Recreation Department. The accompanying town photograph shows the reservoir grounds and predates the planting.
