Drivers using Interstate 95’s southbound entrance and exit ramps at Exit 88 in Groton should prepare for temporary closures expected to begin Thursday, October 22, according to an October 16 Connecticut Department of Transportation advisory.

CTDOT says the closures are needed for safety improvements. It also expects southbound highway lane closures during the evening of October 22. The notice does not specify the ramp closure hours, a reopening date or the streets to be used for detours.

The department says ramp closures will be announced seven days in advance on on-site message boards, and detours will be posted. Drivers should follow the signs in place rather than assume that an unannounced alternate route has been designated.

Weather and other unforeseen conditions may change the schedule. The work is part of CTDOT project 0058-0307, with Empire Paving as the contractor. The announcement concerns planned work next week, not a verified current emergency closure.
