GROTON — The Town of Groton has earned Sustainable CT’s 2026 Climate Leader designation and a one-time $16,667 prize to support a climate-resilience project in the coming year, according to an October 23 town announcement.

Groton reported earning 190 points across seven actions and 12 sub-actions, exceeding the program’s 150-point threshold. The designation follows its Silver-level certification in 2024.

The town cited climate planning and vulnerability-assessment work, community engagement, the Quaker Farm Road Bridge culvert removal, shade sails at the senior center, Complete Streets projects, the HeatSmart campaign, open-space acquisition and C-PACE projects.

The announcement says Groton is one of seven municipalities receiving the designation in 2026 and will be recognized November 10 at The Wadsworth in Hartford. It does not identify the specific future project that will receive the prize money or announce a new construction schedule.
