GROTON — The City of Groton Police Department will host a free medication collection Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 295 Meridian Street as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The department’s October 13 release says the collection provides anonymous disposal of old, unwanted or expired medications. Tablets, capsules, patches and other solid prescription-drug forms are among the materials it describes.

The release says collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps or illicit drugs. Liquid products should remain in their original containers with caps tightly sealed against leakage, according to the department. People with questions about a particular item should check with the collection organizers before bringing it.

DEA’s current campaign independently confirms the October 24 date and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. local schedule. The Groton site is the City police station on Meridian Street; it is separate from Town of Groton Police headquarters.
