GROTON — Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took a man into custody on Benham Road on October 9 after telling a City of Groton police officer they had a federal warrant, according to redacted police records supplied to Eastern CT News on October 17.
The records document a local police response to a caller who reported that ICE was at her home. They do not identify the man, specify what the warrant concerned or say where federal agents took him.
In his supplementary report, Officer Matthew Pinney wrote that he was dispatched at approximately 10:24 a.m. After arriving, he saw several people around the perimeter of the home wearing tactical-style vests with police and federal-police placards and displaying badges.
Pinney reported that the agents then took one man into custody and spoke directly with him, identifying themselves as ICE agents and saying they had a federal warrant for the man. The report says the man was transported away from the property.
Pinney, Sgt. Steven Smith and Officer Kristopher Connell spoke with the caller afterward and explained what had happened, according to the narrative. The report says local units cleared without incident and that no further action was taken.
The department's call summary classifies the initial call as a welfare check; the officer's supplementary report classifies the incident as assisting another agency. The dispatch record lists the responding local units clearing at approximately 10:47–10:48 a.m. Those classifications describe the local response, not the legal basis for the federal detention.
The supplementary narrative was dated October 13, while the call summary was printed October 16. Both concern the October 9 incident and carry case number 2600010199. The department supplied the redacted documents in response to a newsroom request for public police material.
The released records do not establish the man's immigration status, any criminal charge, the type of federal warrant or the outcome of federal proceedings. They also do not establish a connection to the separately reported October 9 ICE arrest in New London. Eastern CT News is not identifying the man or treating those incidents as the same case.
This report is based on the two City of Groton Police records, not an independently obtained ICE warrant or federal case file. The linked agency page identifies the department and its public-records request process; it is not a public download of the records supplied to the newsroom.
