FRANKLIN — The town’s October Walktober program combines outdoor recreation with the history of local residents who supported the American Revolution.

An Ashbel Woodward Museum notice posted September 22 describes the 1,776 Digital Step Challenge at Giddings Park, with interactive trail activities and a visit to the museum’s grounds.

The subjects extend beyond battle history. Participants encounter the supplies and hardships of colonial militia, early medicine, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense and Connecticut’s role supplying the revolutionary effort.

The town presents the challenge as an opportunity to explore Franklin’s past through walking rather than only through indoor exhibits.
