WATERFORD — Fitch handed Waterford its first football loss of the season Friday, October 23, winning 36–28 at Alumni Memorial Field after a second-half comeback and a last-minute defensive stand, according to The Day’s full game report.

The Falcons trailed 20–13 before scoring 23 consecutive points. Their leading runner finished with 175 rushing yards and three touchdowns, including the score that put Fitch ahead 21–20 in the third quarter, The Day reported. A 13-yard quarterback run and an 8-yard rushing touchdown added to the second-half surge.

Fitch led 36–20 with about two minutes remaining, but two fumbles gave Waterford another opportunity. The Lancers cut the margin to eight points and threatened to tie the game before Fitch intercepted a pass toward the end zone with roughly a minute left.

Waterford’s quarterback completed 16 of 23 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns, all to the same receiver, according to the report. The Lancers also committed 10 penalties. Waterford fell to 5–1; this account does not infer Fitch’s overall record or calculate playoff standings from incomplete results.

The result is a significant turnaround for a Fitch team that lost 3–0 at Woodstock earlier this season. The Day described the Falcons as back in the Class M playoff discussion, which is different from securing a postseason berth.
