CTDOT announced October 13 that it is designing railroad-crossing marking and sign improvements in 24 Connecticut towns, including 19 in New London, Windham and Tolland counties.
The local towns are Putnam, Coventry, Killingly, Sprague, Lisbon, Stafford, East Lyme, Mansfield, Thompson, Montville, Tolland, Franklin, Norwich, Waterford, Griswold, Willington, Groton, Plainfield and Windham.
The proposed work extends roadway edge, lane and center lines across crossings to reduce the chance of drivers turning onto tracks. It also replaces faded or damaged advance signs and pavement markings, with selective trimming to improve visibility.
Design is scheduled for completion in November 2027. Construction is anticipated in spring 2028, contingent on acceptance and funding. CTDOT identifies federal funding for the full project.
The announcement does not identify each crossing or an immediate work schedule. Residents can submit questions or comments to project engineer Brett Myskowski at 860-574-2768, referencing State Project 0172-0545.
