STONINGTON — East Lyme answered a late Stonington equalizer with a goal of its own to win the Eastern Connecticut Conference field-hockey championship 3–2 Tuesday, November 3.
Summer Stefanelli tipped in Mia Lloyd’s shot on a penalty corner with 46 seconds remaining, The Day reported. The winner came after Hana Lyon had pulled Stonington level with 2:12 left.
Stefanelli had opened the scoring, and Sophia Gibson’s penalty stroke made it 2–0 before Bailey Eck began Stonington’s comeback. Gibson was named the final’s Most Outstanding Player.
The result lifted East Lyme to 17–1. Stonington finished the conference tournament at 11–7. The ECC’s championship announcement also recognizes the Vikings as this year’s winners.
