East Lyme expects construction on the Colony Road bridge to resume in the first week of November after another delay in material deliveries, according to an October 26 town project update.

The road remains closed over Latimer Brook. The town’s current notice gives the end of the closure as an undetermined date in 2027, rather than the former November 30, 2026 construction target. The new update does not announce a reopening.

In its October 2 explanation, the town said unexpected rock at the planned west abutment prompted a foundation redesign instead of drilling through it. That update anticipated returning to construction during October. The October 26 notice now says materials previously expected earlier this month should arrive by the end of October.

Egret Road remains the town’s designated primary access for the neighborhood beyond the closure, toward Route 161. Friday garbage and recycling collection is to continue, although pickup times may vary. The town asks residents to put containers out by 7 a.m.

The project replaces the old culverts with an 80-foot bridge. The town lists a $6 million construction approval and says the replacement qualifies for full federal and state funding. A revised final cost was not established in the reviewed notices.

The town is evaluating winter-work options. Its earlier provisional expectation of finishing next summer is not a confirmed opening date; a more detailed schedule remains pending.
