NEW HAVEN — Several students were detained after an altercation at Achievement First Amistad High School Wednesday morning involving what police determined was a pellet or BB gun, according to WFSB’s report citing the police department.

Officers responded to the Dixwell Avenue school after an altercation involving students and one adult and a report that someone appeared to have a gun, WFSB reported.

The police account described by WFSB differs from an earlier scanner-based CT Police Live report, which described a handgun being recovered during a lockdown. Police subsequently identified the item as a pellet or BB gun.

The department had not released further details in WFSB’s account. Charges, injuries and the time any lockdown ended were not specified.

UPDATE, November 4 — Police identified the reported weapon as a pellet or BB gun, according to WFSB. This updates the earlier attributed scanner report describing a handgun.
