A Naugatuck man faces a federal interstate-threats charge over comments prosecutors say he posted online October 8 and 9.

Scott Dyer, 35, was arrested October 14 and appeared in federal court in Bridgeport that day, according to an October 15 announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Connecticut.

Prosecutors allege the YouTube comments threatened Republican Party members and an unnamed high-ranking public official. The charge was brought by criminal complaint; the allegations have not been proved at trial.

Dyer was released on a $100,000 bond to home confinement with electronic monitoring, the office said. The interstate-threats charge carries a maximum possible prison term of five years if he is convicted.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating with Naugatuck police, according to the release. Dyer is presumed innocent unless and until proved guilty.
