COVENTRY — Drivers near Patriots Park should expect runners and brief intersection closures Saturday morning, November 7, as the CT Veterans Day Race starts at 10 a.m., Coventry police announced Friday.

Police plan closures from 10 to 10:15 a.m. at Monument Hill and Lake Street, High Street and Veterans Drive, Veterans Drive and Cross Street, and South Street and Cross Street so participants can cross safely. Reopening at 10:15 is the department’s expected schedule.

More than 300 runners, walkers and ruckers are expected. Police listed the course from Patriots Park, 172 Lake Street, along Lake Street, Cross Street, South Street, Judd Road, Nathan Hall Road and Bunker Hill Road before returning by South and Cross streets. They expect the roads to clear in about an hour, with police, firefighters and course guards directing traffic.

The organizer offers a four-mile run and a three-mile walk or ruck. Its route guidance says the shorter walk and ruck turn around on South Street just past Judd Road. An opening ceremony is scheduled for 9:45 a.m., with awards at 11 a.m.

Organizers say proceeds support Connecticut veterans’ service organizations. Ruck participants are asked to carry nonperishable food for donation afterward to Veterans Base Camp’s Vittles for Veterans pantry. Event and registration information is available at https://www.ctveteransdayrace.com/.
