COVENTRY–ANDOVER — Coventry’s posted Bunker Hill Road bridge detour is scheduled through November, with a December 1 completion target.
Coventry’s notice gives August 24 as the closure start. It permits homeowners’ local access but directs other traffic away from the work area. From the Coventry end, the route turns south onto Parker Bridge Road and continues to Route 6. From Andover, drivers travel east on Route 6, then north on Parker Bridge Road to Bunker Hill Road.
The town manager’s September 21 construction update, recorded in draft council minutes, says the Bunker Hill bridge was actively under construction and expected to remain closed through November. Coventry continued to feature the detour notice on its municipal homepage when checked October 14. December 1 is a scheduled completion date, not a verified reopening.
Earlier project records explain why the work spans two communities. Coventry’s May 18 council packet describes its Rufus Creek crossing as a large culvert beneath the road. The town coordinated with Andover’s separate Hop River bridge project to avoid isolating residents with two simultaneous construction sites, delaying Coventry’s work until summer 2026.
That packet identifies Dayton Construction of Watertown as the contractor, with a $984,500 low bid. The town’s overall estimate was $1.4 million including engineering: a $700,000 state grant and a $700,000 local share from the 2023 road bond. Those are planning and contract figures, not final project expenditures.
Coventry Engineering lists 860-498-4129 for questions. Confirm property access or time-sensitive travel and follow on-site signs; this report does not establish passage across the construction area.
