Colchester says CTDOT has committed $907,000 to improve Norwich Avenue sidewalks between William J. Johnston Middle School and Old Bacon Academy, including replacement of the pedestrian bridge over Judd Brook.
First Selectman Bernie Dennler announced the award in his October 16 report. The town plans to close sidewalk gaps, widen portions and replace deteriorated sections. Dennler said the bridge needed significant repairs last fall.
The town describes the Pleasant Street-to-middle-school stretch as an aging, heavily used pedestrian route connecting schools with the Youth Center, Town Green and Cragin Library. It says the work will improve accessibility for students and other users.
Funding does not establish a construction start. The town says engineering, approvals and bidding are still ahead, with a schedule to be determined. No contractor, closure plan or completion date was announced.
The money is through the Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program. CTDOT identifies LOTCIP as state funding for eligible municipal transportation work; SECOG’s guidance includes stand-alone sidewalks and bridge improvements among possible projects. Those program pages explain the framework but do not independently confirm this award amount.
