CANTERBURY — Firefighters quickly extinguished a ground fire near Wauregan Road Tuesday afternoon, according to a Canterbury Volunteer Fire Company statement shared by WINY Radio.

The company said it was dispatched at about 12:43 p.m. November 3 with mutual aid from Scotland, Mortlake, Central Village and Lisbon. Arriving crews found a fire measuring approximately 20 feet by 20 feet.

The department thanked Canterbury Public Works for tree work and manpower. Its statement also urged people to avoid burning in high fire-danger conditions and to be careful when discarding cigarette butts.

The statement did not identify a cause or report an injury outcome. Its safety advice should not be read as a finding that smoking materials started this fire.
