BROOKLYN — Former First Selectman Rick Ives died November 3, his family announced in a statement shared by WINY Radio on Wednesday.

Ives served as Brooklyn’s first selectman from 2013 to 2021, according to the family. He also served as chairman of both the Board of Finance and Board of Education.

His community work extended beyond town government. In a January 2025 profile, Access Community Action Agency described Richard Ives as a longtime member of its board of directors and an advocate for Brooklyn and the surrounding region.

For residents looking for an opportunity to pay their respects, the family said arrangements and service information would be announced later. No service date or location was included in Wednesday’s announcement.
