CTDOT is developing an I-84 pavement-preservation project through Willington, Ashford and Union, according to an October 13 announcement. Construction is anticipated in spring 2027, subject to project acceptance, funding and required permits.
Eastbound work would begin near the bridge over Route 32 in Willington and continue to the Massachusetts line. Westbound treatment would extend from the state line through Ashford toward Exit 70 in Willington.
Plans call for milling and resurfacing, including entrance and exit ramps. Short off-peak detours may be used when ramp work requires closures.
Design completion is scheduled for November 2026. CTDOT describes the project as entirely state-funded and intended to extend pavement life.
No construction-day closures or final traffic schedule are announced. Questions can be directed to principal engineer Sebastian Cannamela at 860-594-2698, referencing State Project 0160-0157.
